Implementing the National Planning Framework

The eolas 2018 Planning Conference comes just after the launch of the National Planning Framework in early 2018. This year’s conference will look at the implementation of the NPF which is the Government’s long-term strategic planning framework that will guide national, regional and local planning and investment decisions over the next 25 years.

The conference will look at the implications of implementing the NPF and will discuss some of its core approaches and recommendations including:

✔ Targets for balancing growth between the three regions;
✔ All-island issues in planning for an island of 8 million people;
✔ New emphasis on renewing and developing built-up areas;
✔ Addressing rural decline;
✔ Creation of a new independent Office of the Planning Regulator;
✔ Development of strategies by the three Regional Assemblies;
✔ Linking the NPF to the new 10-year National Investment Plan;
✔ Strengthened and more environmentally focused local planning;
✔ Use of State lands for strategic purposes.

The conference will bring together key stakeholders to look at the implications of these comprehensive changes and what they will mean for the planning system and will discuss the wider economic and social impacts of the changes.
